How long has the Vessel UK programme been running?

The Vessel UK has been running since July 2004

Is there a minimum or maximum age for participation?

You need to be at least 18 years of age to apply (unless supported by an adult)

I’ve never taught before; can I still apply?

Yes! During the training, you will receive help with your project plans. Delivering a project well is very different from just straight teaching.

How many people will I be traveling with?

You will be accompanied by a group of at least three of The Vessel UK Core team. The number of participants varies, dependent on where we are going, but we aim to take between 6 – 10 individuals per journey.

What does a typical day look like?

Your typical day whilst on a Vessel UK Journey will consist of two team meetings at the start and end of each day. You will work with your group for approximately four hours per day, however, this time can be spread out over the course of the day.

Where will I stay?

This may vary from place to place, but you can rest assured that a member of The Vessel UK Core team will have checked anywhere that you will stay. In past journeys, we have stayed in guesthouses and rented accommodation for the whole group. We will be able to give you further clarification about this during your initial interview.

What happens if I get sick while abroad?

You will be fully supported by The Vessel UK core team member(s) that have traveled with you. They will work with our hosting organisation to ensure that any health needs are addressed by health care professionals should you need them to be.

Do I need to speak the local language?

No! We will be working with local people that will teach you a few phases, so make sure you come willing to learn! However, your classes will be led with the help of an interpreter.

Can I travel during the weekends?

We try to keep your weekends free but in the past, (normally close to show time) leaders have needed to give up a Saturday to get extra time with their class.

The Vessel UK provides details of excursions for the group that you are welcome to attend (for an additional cost). Any solo travel independent to these excursions will need to be discussed beforehand so that we can ensure your safety.
